OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR
TONY KNOWLES
State of Alaska
September 30, 1997
Dear Ms. Sarsfield:
Your upcoming nationwide trek sounds like an exciting and educational trip for you and your husband. With only a week to spend in Alaska, you will, unfortunately, be limited in your ability to visit many places due to the staggering vastness of our great state.
You mention you will be visiting the capitol in every state. I suggest you begin your Alaska week in our capital city, Juneau. Make sure to visit the local fish hatchery, the State Capitol, the Alaska State Museum, the Mendenhall Glacier, and perhaps take a one day sightseeing trip to Tracy Arm where you'll be treated to calving glaciers and a myriad of sea and shore life.
From Juneau, I suggest you fly to Anchorage, our largest city to enjoy its fine dining, cultural attractions such as the Art Museum, and wide array of recreational activities. From there I recommend a trip on the Alaska Railroad to Denali State Park for spectacular scenery and wild animals. After Denali, a stopover in Fairbanks will show you interior Alaska. A flight up to Point Barrow will take you to the top of the world, give you a taste of rural Alaska, and let you experience the midnight sun.
I wish you luck on your cross country adventure, and hope you enjoy the warm hospitality and exciting natural wonders Alaska has to offer.
Sincerely.
Tony Knowles
