According to historic records James Buchanan met the love of his life on this bridge that spans 99 feet across the Conestoga River in Pennsylvania Dutch County. Later, the couple became engaged, but her parents forced her to break off the engagement and she committed suicide a week later. Buchanan, our country's first and only bachelor president, never married.
