Ghostly images of adversaries Grant and Pemberton appear beside the white-domed Illinois Memorial. Modeled after the Pantheon in Rome its circular hall contains a bronze nameplate for each of the state's 36,325 soldiers. As specified by the Illinois Commission no symbol of war appears anywhere.
